It probably seems like not the most obvious topic with which to resume blogging, but I figured if I waited forever for the perfect topic I’ll never get around to it. PHP 7.3 has been out for nearly 4 years.
If you’re reading this, it probably means I’ve either:
- Succeeded in my upgrade
- Reverted it
- (if you’re really quick) not yet completed it
I’ll post an aftermath if there’s anything of interest to note.
AsSalaamu Alaikum Basil,
I saw this post from my LinkedIn feed but would rather bring the discussion to your blog than have it on LinkedIn :).
You mentioned in your LinkedIn post that you do self hosting, do you use a VPS or are you running your own server?
Wa ʿalaykumussalaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh, Yunus
Sure, happy to have the discussion with you anywhere you like. 😀
I lease my own server and I’ve been doing so, one way or another, for about 13 or so years.
Who do you lease from? Do you know of any companies that charge for server space a as service? Meaning that they only change you for your usage? So if this month I only get 0-30 visitors then I will be billed for diskspace usage/memory usage and bandwidth but as traffic grows etc the bill increases? Ting has a billing style for mobile phones that I would like to find for server hosting https://ting.com/rates, they have buckets that you fall in each month and your bill is based off that, with a base amount each month just to keep your phone number active on their network even if you do not use it.
